Pothole Dummy, a new campaign produced by creative agency mono, Advance Auto Parts (AAP) and partners Monroe & Moog.
Over the course of just five days, the vehicle hit more than 1,000 potholes on the streets of Chicago (1,110, to be exact) -- with Second City comedian Daniel Strauss in the driver's seat and celebrities like Destiny Child's Michelle Williams and Chicago Bears' punter Pat O'Donell coming along for the ride. The campaign not only boosted awareness for the AAP brand, it also shined a light on the true damage potholes cause (an estimated $3 billion annually).
Throughout the week of filming, the Pothole Dummy car aimed for as many potholes as possible over a five-day shoot. Behind the wheel was Second City comedian Daniel Strauss, who narrated his journey on the site's live feed and across social media (@potholedummy, #PotholeDummy). Some local celebrities like Chicago Bears' tight end Zach Miller and punter Pat O'Donnell will be tagged along for the ride.
"After months of round the clock work, we're excited to unleash Pothole Dummy on the streets of Chicago,” said mono’s Founder and Managing Creative Director Chris Lange. “This idea defies the definition of traditional advertising, bringing together just the right blend of technology, innovation and entertainment, to help educate all of us about the real damage created by potholes that emerge in the spring."
