According to Cyprus Ambassador to Sweden Giorgos Siakallis, the collection includes 13,000 findings from 20 archeological sites.

These were transferred to Sweden, following the conclusion of excavations conducted by the Swedish Archaeological Expedition to Cyprus, between 1927 and 1931.

In an address at the opening of the exhibition, Siakallis said Cyprus government was making an effort to protect the cultural and archeological heritage of the island, and he highlighted destruction of Cyprus’ cultural heritage following the Turkish invasion of 1974, when mass looting of archaeological sites occurred.
