The number of visitors to the ancient red-rose city of Petra increased by 27 per cent in 2010, compared with the year before, official figures showed Sunday.
According to figures compiled by Petra Development And Tourism Region Authority, some 902,313 people visited the city of Petra last year, compared with 708,671 people in 2009.
Revenues collected in the city in 2010 also jumped by 31 per cent hitting JD17.7 million, compared with JD13.5 million in 2009. The increase in the number of visitors to Petra, one of the new Seven World Wonders, was attributed to the stability and security which Jordan enjoys as well as the abroad promotion campaigns to encourage tourists to visit Petra.
