Acropolis Museum to host specialized tours every Saturday

Its new program of specialized presentations and guided tours that will take place every Saturday afternoon – starting November 1 – revealed the Acropolis Museum of Athens yesterday. Visitors in the future will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with unknown aspects of antiquity, such as the assembled art, the Acropolis’ sacred caves, the Erechtheion and others, presented by the museum’s specialized archaeologists.

“The three-dimensional art of Athens was not made exclusively from a single piece of material, nor from only one type of material, e.g. stone, terracotta or metal. A variety of types from the same or different materials bound together in a harmonious ensemble were used for its production, in different sizes and for various purposes,” was underlined in the museum’s statement regarding the first alternating gallery talk, entitled “Assembled Art,” which will take place on Saturday.

In addition, visitors will have the chance to discuss with archaeologists over various aspects of the art currently on display at the museum, such as puppet dolls, idols, acroliths, chryselephantine statues, and their different functions in an ancient sanctuary.

On Saturday, November 8, the Acropolis Museum will host the “Erechtheion: The identity of Athens” talk, which will focus on mythical figures of antiquity that left a mark on Acropolis’ most ancient site, like that of Athena Polias.
