More than 20,000 Peruvian and foreign tourists expect to receive the six museums located in the northern Lambayeque region during upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend, the director of the Executive Unit No. 005: Naylamp-Lambayeque Celso Sialer Tavara estimated.
The northern department hosts the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, Brüning National Archaeological Museum and The Sican National Museum, as well as Tucume, Huaca Rajada Sipán and Chotuna-Chornancap site-museums.
“These archaeological sites have turned into one of the main attractions of visitors, who arrive in the region during national holidays,” he said.
The great cultural richness and the last archaeological discoveries registered in the northern department have generated great expectation in the tourists, he said.
On the occasion of the 190th anniversary of Peru's Independence Day, the official highlighted that the tourist inflow is likely to represent a 20 percent increase over the same period in 2010.
