OLYMPUS & VIMEO Present Paul Trillo's "Irrational Fear of Nothing"

The final leg of the Point of View film series “Irrational Fear of Nothing,” directed by Paul Trillo and produced by Big Block, punctuates Olympus and Vimeo’s collaboration on three short films helmed by world-renowned Vimeo Staff Picked-filmmakers. The series, which explores the beauty and complexity of the different worlds that surround us all, was conceived by Vimeo Brand Studio, Vimeo’s in-house production studio for creating premium content for brands. Using an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II® camera, each of the enlisted filmmakers took different approaches to their pieces, which in turn, brings the viewer into a new and exciting world to explore with each short film.

Director Paul Trillo’s “Irrational Fear of Nothing” takes us deep into one man’s neuroses as the viewer accompanies him for a day in his life in New York City. The camera, attached directly to the actor using a snorricam rig, follows him from the back “capturing his every mundane moment.” The main character’s thoughts are exposed by the protagonist’s voice-over narrating the constant anxious rambling of a fearful and lonely man exceedingly paranoid of what others might be thinking.

Paul Trillo explains, “I wanted to use this unique camera angle to heighten my character’s sense of paranoia. Additionally, having him always in the center of the frame helped to exacerbate the feeling of a third person - in this case the viewer - witnessing his every move. It’s incredible how at times technique can truly help to inform the story.”

Paul Trillo is a New York-based director whose work challenges both curiosity and illusion. Paul’s constant pursuit to develop and play with new techniques has led to the creation of a strikingly fresh body of work. His diverse interest in technology, comedy, and design permeates each and every film. Paul Trillo has been named as one of D&AD’s Next Directors and recently won The One Show’s “One To Watch” and “30 Under 30 Film Festival’s Director to Watch” awards.

"[Paul] is a short filmmaker whose films combine experimentation with wonderful composition and technicality, concrete story with abstract implementation." - Proxart Magazine.
